Featuring over 1,000 of John Peacock’s renowned illustrations, this book is the ultimate sourcebook for children’s costume down the Ages, from Antiquity to the present day. Every era and style of childrenswear is represented: Ancient Egyptian pleated linen robes; medieval tunics, stockings and fur-trimmed hats; exquisite miniature 17th-century gowns; the pretty printed cotton dresses and slippers of the 19th century; the denim and sportswear of our own time. Also included are special pages showing infants’ frocks, children’s headgear and children’s accessories. The book is arranged in six chronological sections, and every picture is accompanied by a full description. A final reference section includes a concise bibliography and an invaluable time chart tracing the evolution of children’s costume throughout the centuries.
