Profusely illustrated (Zilcken, illustrator). The hors-texte illustrations as to reproductive process are as follows: 24 full page etchings with printed tissue guards by Ph. Zilchen. 23 photoengraves, 43 auto-types and 6 woodcuts.

Esta importante pesquisa consiste numa série de artigos de vários escritores conhecidos sobre a vida e obra dos mais famosos pintores nerlandeses do século XIX, com um resumo de toda a escola de Max Rooses. Cada volume contém ensaios e reproduções sobre 12 artistas, estando os seus nomes listados nas lombadas de cada um dos volumes. Cada ensaio é ilustrado com texto em preto e branco, gravuras em página inteira e um total de 24 gravuras originais. Essas gravuras de interpretação são obras de arte gráfica em si mesmas e constituem exemplos muito bons da arte da gravura na Holanda do período final século XIX.
Um belo conjunto de um “tour de force” de artigos e encadernação. Com um pano verde pálido com padrão floral Arte Nova a verde escuro nas capas dianteira e traseira. O centro de cada capa frontal possui, ainda, um painel Arte Nova a verde escuro com um motivo dourado em cada centro, título com letras douradas em cada capa e cada lombada é gravada a letras douradas com o título e os nomes de cada artista incluídos nesse volume específico. A numeração do volume é representada por estrelas douradas na lombada.

This important survey consists of a series of articles by various well-known writers on the life and works of the most celebrated Dutch painters of the 19th century, with a summary of the entire school by Max Rooses. Each volume contains the essays and reproductions of 12 artists. Their names are listed on the spines of the volumes. Each essay is illustrated with b/w text ills, full page photo engravings and a total of 24 original engravings, these interpretation etchings are works of graphic art in themselves and constitute very good examples of the art of engraving in Holland at the end of the 19th century.
A beautiful set of a tour de force of bookmaking and binding. Pale green cloth with dark green Art Nouveau floral pattern on both front and back covers. The center of each front cover has a dark green Art Nouveau panel with a gold motif within each center. The title lettered in gilt on each front cover. Each spine is lettered in gilt with the title and the names of each artist included in that particular volume. The volume numbering is represented by gilt stars on the spine. Art Nouveau motif carried out at head and foot of each spine. Top edges gilt.
