In the catalog accompanying the anthological exhibition by Jorge Martins, held at the Centro Cultural de Belém from 30 June to 22 October, the authors of the texts sought to take a complete and comprehensive approach to the work of this important Portuguese artist. Jorge Martins (Lisbon, 1940) is one of the most outstanding painters of contemporary Portuguese art.
After a voluntary exile in Paris and New York in the 60s and 70s, he returned to Portugal in 1991 where he lives and works.
The catalog, organized in several thematic chapters, confronts the painting and drawing developed over the last forty years, establishing theoretical and thematic crossing points, and revealing an extremely coherent and innovative corpus. The catalog includes reproductions of works exhibited at the Centro Cultural de Belém, along with introductory texts by several Portuguese and foreign authors.
